Hi folks,

I’m a college student here in Michigan (studying English, Communications and Theatre), soon to be a teacher.  I’m a member of CFI Michigan and the chair of a CFI on Campus branch at my Catholic College.  I was raised in the Christian Reformed Church but I got better.

I’m a huge fan of Point of Inquiry—D. J. Grothe is my frickin’ hero.

Please feel free to drop me a line and I look forward to rousing discussions and debates here in the forum.

Welcome Fletch.  We look forward to your ideas and opinions.  Sounds like you are already quite active and knowledgeable.  (CFI at a Catholic College???)

I’m not sure if it takes knowledge or insanity to start up a CFI group at a Catholic College.  I haven’t been burned at the stake, yet, so I guess that’s pretty good . . .

Welcome Fletcher and fellow English studier.  smile  I’ve been giving it serious thought to start a CFI group here in the HQ of the A of G town.  However, the campus I’m attending is a secular and State ran university, so I might find less headaches starting one.

There aren’t nearly enough English students around here . . .

I encourage you to start up a group at your school.  Hopefully it will be much easier for you at a public school, but don’t expect it to be a cakewalk . . . you’d be surprised by the way someone else expressing their views raises the ire of Christian groups.

Let me know how it goes if you do decided to start a group.  And I’ll be happy to offer up whatever limited wisdom I have on the subject.

And everyone really should check out the Reasonable Doubts podcast: http://www.doubtcast.org

Fletch is one of the hosts, along with two other CFI | Michigan members. It’s well worth the listen!

HI Fletcher. I hope your studies are going well.

What college, Ave Maria in the Detroit area? Sienna Heights? (Maybe that’s not info you want to give out.)

A cfi group on a catholic campus is - intriguing. How does the administration handle it?

I went to a school run nominally by the Reformed Church in America. They would fund the Atheists’ group but not the gay support group. This was literally two decades ago tho.
