can you give some examples of groups on the topics i’ve mentioned or related topics?

I’m sure the larger the city the more options you will have.  Des Moines, IA is the biggest city in Iowa, but still decently small minded for its size.  The only group I found was Des Moines Atheist/Secularist.  I would look under Atheists, Secularists, Humanists, Secular Humanists, Philosophy, Book Clubs and what ever else tickles your fancy.
