I met the greatest speaker at this convention and he is from CFI - West.

Edward Tabash gave an hour long talk on “Threat of the Religious Right” which may have been the sole speaker on the warning signs we must watch out for in our government.  In the middle of bad lighting and microphones unable to allow anyone to hear, suddenly this wonderful speaker grabbed the attention of over 300 people in the main room and who knows where else his words were sent.

He caught my attention immediately as he did not try to add flourishes and humor into what I felt was the most important speech of the day.  Much of what Dawkins said was lost in the mike cutting off and Edward Tabash stole the Saturday afternoon as his own.  I have written a lot on the subject of the prohibitions that came in with the Bush Administration (banning abortions, same sex marriages, stem cell research and death with dignity) and for the first time I heard a prominent Beverly Hills Attorney address this fearsome threat to half of the American citizens.

He got a standing ovation and left the conference room.  Sunday morning after the conference came to an end, I found him and told him how clearly his words struck home for me and many others.  He was pleased and stated that was exactly what he had planned.  He gave me his business card and if this man speaks again at the next conference, I will be in his audience.

I’m new to CFI and hope to learn more from all of you on the subject of individual freedoms in America.

Glad it went well. I haven’t seen Tabash in person, but I linked to videos where he gave a talk at a recent CFI trip. You can find the thread HERE.

Sandy,

I’m glad you got the chance to hear Ed Tabash.  I watched his speech on the video from the Galapagos Trip with RD and found it extremely informative.  Since then I have paid extra attention to news pertaining to the Supreme Court.  The amount of influence coming from the religious right is frightening.  I worry that appointing the Supreme Court is easier to do than actually having a trial.  The next president will play an extra significant role in defining our moral law because of their opportunity to tip the scales in either direction.

Scott, You are absolutely right and we all must be aware of the next Justice to the Supreme Court.  Those prohibitions that I have written about for so many years are exactly what the Conservatives want and all they need is a firm majority on the Court.

I am also on the Board of Directors of the N.W. Phoenix Compassion and Choices (death with dignity) and we are watching very closely at the 2008 election.  Every Republican on the list will push those prohibitions and make a police state of America.  We will end up with the same Inquisition actions that we saw in Europe when the Catholic Church took over the governments.  Massive government slaughters and women will again take the brunt.

The answer to this mess can be found if we simply train our new generation of voters to focus on individual freedoms and how to recognize candidates who will keep our freedoms and liberties safe (and out of the religious hands).  We have bred sheep in America for the last 50 years and it is time we took notice and give our children the gift of freedom and choices.

I heard a lot of talk about raising secular children and had hoped for discussions of some training to learn right from wrong instinctively rather than from a list of some elses moral codes, could be found.

It was impossible to catch all the classes so there might have been this coverage.  Tabash struck a loud chord for me and I will express my opinions to him after I get through my emails that backed up for 10 days.  Oh, what a load of crap I receive.....

I’ve been watching all of this too and I think he is right that we should be aware of “The Threat of the Religious Reich”.  If we are not careful, we will find ourselves in the middle of a Theocracy.
