I’d like some corroboration from Mormons themselves that this is an accurate portrayal of their beliefs. From the little that I know, it looks accurate, if obviously from a non-Mormon point of view. But if it is accurate ... hoo boy, where do you start?

Wowsers ohh  I also would like to hear from Mormons or exMormons if this is accurate.  I had also heard something about Mr. Smith only being able to read the gold plates by wearing a hat over his face?

IIRC Smith was only able to “read” and “translate” the gold plates when he was behind a screen, so that his secretary could never actually see the plates themselves. Then when he was finished doing his “translating”—wonder of wonders—the gold plates disappeared!

Unbelievable!  IF this is true, well… as Doug said, where do you start?  Sounds like one of the worst religious doctrines ever, but I’ve also heard a lot similar to this- not from Mormons though and supposedly they never would tell you the truth because they are suppose to get you to join them.  Now and ex-Mormons will tell you, probably- if you can find one.

Well I don’t want the whole of the video to be regarded as though it were me trying to speak about the latter day saints authoritatively.  I just saw it, thought it was interesting, thought it might be interesting to some people on this forum and posted it.  I can only confirm certain things on it, having spent a few of the early years of my life living in Salt Lake City and having known several mormons over the years.  I have attended mormon temple services as a guest, had mormons in for tea more than once, and I did have the pleasure of traveling to Chichen Itza, the Mayan ruins in Mexico, with a group of Mormons who were utterly enamored by the “Israelite” pyramids.

To be fair, I probably ought to qualify that I believe there are differences in the ways that individual mormons practice their beliefs and relate to their church.  In high school I had a mormon friend who let me in on a few secret handshakes and such.  Things that were supposed to be secrets between mormons.  Obviously, he was quite a liberal mormon compared to the picture that this video paints.

Didn’t we discuss the mormon cult a few months ago on this forum?  I would also like to know what mormons and ex-mormons have to say about this video.

Having seen a number of Mormon videos like this and also reading the comments, there were some ex-mormons that said these things are part of Mormon texts.  After all, it wouldn’t make sense to make up a video of fake Mormon teachings to try to prove some point.  You may hear some Mormons try to deny it, possibly because the Mormon church has tried to distance themselves a bit from some of this, much the same way they have from polygamy.  It’s kind of like Scientology which was just made up by some guy who said millions of years ago there was atomic war and some volcano and so on, but when in one video they questioned Scientologists about that part, that played dumb like it was nonsense or they’d never heard it before.

Most anti-Mormon info comes from ex-Mormons.  If you want to watch some in depth videos about the scientific problems of The Book of Mormon, here are a couple of videos by ex-Mormons.

There was an episode of South Park that dealt with the early history of Mormonism, it was very good.

Has any one else seen this ?

I seem to remember that it started in upstate New York, an area where there have been a lot of ufo and other-type stuff alleged.
