Hi
I’m Morgan and have heard alot about this forum through others and thought I’d start looking around the topics. I’m in the SF Bay area, am in biotechnology, and am interested in bioethics in general but also in stem cell research. My hope is that stem cell research can lead us to great advances in conditions in which there is little hope of recovery from conventional treatments although I know we are a long way off from there.  Pursuing that research in the current culture in America is difficult but with time, I’m sure this will change. I’ve also seen cases of abuse outside this country with claims of treating neural disease through stem cells with little evidence of such or followup to attempt researching effects. The research is in its infancy.

Primarily, I’m here to see what issues are being discussed and thought I’d introduce myself.
Thanks, Meg

Morgan:

Welcome to CFI Forum.  I too am new to CFI.  Like you I hope we progress w/Stem Cell Research.  I was glad to see 60 Minutes last Sun and that the Hughes Foundation is able to do a lot for stem cell thru private donations.  I however, am not encouraged the public in the US is supporting same.  I’ve spent a month sending e’s between me and a iconic Pastor and he is dead set against this, abortion, assisted suicide etc etc.  I can sense he influences his congregation.

Regardless, I’m glad you joined CFI.  I hope you enjoy watching the issues here, and I hope you find some way to bring stem cell research to the public so they will understand it’s value.
