The other night I typed “science jewelry” in the Google search engine and eventually came upon Raven Hanna’s website Made With Molecules. Great find, too! She designs jewelry in the shape molecular structures. When I saw the Serotonin/"happiness" necklace I had to have one.

There are other items like glassware and keychains. Unfortunately, the testosterone boxes are unavailable at this time. Sorry, guys.  tongue wink

Hanna has a PhD in molecular biophysics from Yale. “I’m interested in experimenting with approaches to science education,” she says. “I feel like that’s one of the reasons why people kind of have a negative attitude toward science, because they’re afraid they won’t understand it.” Hanna got the idea to design jewelry while admiring a drawing of serotonin in a book: “It was beautiful and I thought it would make a lovely necklace,” she said.

Exactly! I can’t wailt until mine arrives!  LOL

(Now if I could only find a nice “Happy Human” logo pendant. I’m not too crazy about the designs at evolvefish.com.)

Cool site. Another neat site is The DNA Store. In addition to DNA themed jewelry, they also have puzzles, ties, and another quirky gifts.

I’ve seem the aforementioned molecule jewelry by Dr. Hanna, as well as some DNA themed jewelry at this great gift store Uncommon Goods. They have many gifts made of recycled materials, and weird gifts for the hard to shop for people in your life. I’ve found the site indispensable for birthdays and the holidays.

Here are a few of their neat gift pieces:

Molecular Necklace
Seratonin Cufflinks
Magnetic changeable necklace
Periodic Table Shower Curtian

Yes. I happened upon Uncommon Goods as well when I was searching for science jewelry. I think I saw the DNA jewelry there. What I can’t forget seeing wasn’t science-related but baseball-related: Baseball Stadium Seat jewelry. Shea Stadium’s coming down at the end of the season. It’d be nice to have a keepsake.  grin

You might like these too. They even let you design your own. They have algae, coral, full moons, the whole lot, and they start at around $35.

“To evolve such forms, we systematically engage in generative processes. Instead of designing a specific form, we craft a system whose result is a myriad of distinct creations. These systems are interactive, responding both to changes in specific variables and to physical inputs. There is no definitive, final product, instead the many designs created allow for mass customization. “

The brooches are lovely! I’d like the bracelet in metal instead of plastic, though.

I found Rick’s Astronomy Jewelry. I like the idea, but I’m not that crazy about the execution.

These are a neat idea, but need a more modern jeweler to spiff them up. I like their idea that the color of the stones matches the color temperature of the stars.

The ones at NERVOUS have different setups I think to make them last, some are part rubber with metal but a lot of them are stainless with plating.
