CERN and the Super Colider

Have you seen pictures of it’s detection instruments and the magnets that need to keep these racing particles in an extremely tight (relatively) curve.  There must be a billion discrete functions that have to occur every milliseconds with exquisite coordination.  How do they do it

All I know is that the math involved would probably make my head explode.

I think a lot of the fear just boiled down to ignorance.  People hear words like ‘particle collider’ and ‘atom smasher’ and they freak out.  And of course, some people have that whole spitting-in-the-face-of-god knee jerk reaction.
