What if the core issue between those who appreciate and “believe”* Anthropogenic Global Warming and those who believe AGW is a Hoax is their ability to comprehend our Earth as an actual entity?
The religious stuff, especially the evangelicals of (whatever Abrahamic stripe), usually cut out any relationship with our Earth as an entity in itself. Look at how “paganism” was crushed out, even today thoughts of nature worship are demonized by the religious leaders who want their flocks focused on worshiping an image and serving their church’s desires. {The profitsuberalles mentality achieves the same disconnect}
There is another breed of person who relates, on a visceral level, to our physical Earth. This type of person can read about the various scientific avenues of understanding and translate that information into a subcutaneous appreciation for what is going on around us and in the world at large. This kind of person feels comfortable making obvious biosphere connections, simply because they can relate.
~~~
The religious, and greed blinded, ones who keep Earth distant see our biosphere as some fragmented thing, two dimensional as a distant picture window. There’s no connection of understanding, in fact often such folk harbor inner feelings of contempt towards our planet.
The other is in a state of constant awe with every new discovery about our interwoven biosphere. Folds within folds of harmonic cumulative poetry in motion down the stream of time. It means something to us. And Earth’s processes make sense, and when they make sense, people start feeling comfortable about their understanding of future trends. Especially when they have observed a consistent vector for decades.
