As for transcendent mystical experiences, I will never forget the sense of awe I felt the first time I looked through a telescope at a pair of interacting galaxies.

I felt similarly when my son was born. I was right there; even got to catch him and cut the cord! Totally amazing experience for me.

Oh yea, when it comes to transcendent mystical experiences, it don’t get any better than watching your child being born.
And a big thank you to all those beautiful mother’s doing all the work.

I watched a birth once.  It was on TV back when TLC was still a decent channel.  I nearly vomited.  So much screaming.  So much horror.  sick

They are not all so dramatic. When our son was born my wife’s water broke at 4:30 a.m. Our son was delivered at 7:30 a.m. At 8 a.m. my wife was on the phone with her mother asking for pizza. big surprise

Easy delivery, but the kid has been a pain in the ass ever since. Oops. He reads these forums. Just kidding.  LOL

Really. He’s a great kid. I haven’t had to mow the lawn in several years. Kinda handy to have him around.

I bet you’ve never eaten Mountain Oysters either.

Geez kid. I remember in my youth helping hold sheep while the cowboys castrated them. Yeah, there’s blood and screaming, but how else you gonna control the sheep population on the ranch? Those things are as bad as rabbits when it comes to copulatin’.

One of my fondest memories of the neighbor’s ranch was standing alone in a field, at eight years old, holding a handful of rocks while the ranch owners drove a heard of cattle through a gate toward me. My job was to stand in front of 100 cows and throw a rock at the feet of the lead cow so they’d turn to my left into the next field. If I was older I woulnd’tna done it, but damned if it didn’t work. If it hadn’t a worked I would’n be typin’ this.

You have fun with that.  I’ll stay in the city where I can walk to the store and don’t have to hurl stones at rampaging bovines.

Yeah, but have you ever seen the Northern Lights? Have you ever seen a hawk on the wing? Have you ever heard old Camp Cookie sing? Night Rider’s Lament.

Apparently this forum software will not allow more than one link in a post.

Excellent! When my wife and I buy some land in West Texas and build an observatory you’ll need to come visit.

It’s not that I’ve never spent any time in the country.  (I have, a lot of time).  It’s just that I prefer the city to rural areas.  The Milky Way thing sounds cool though.

I can post multiple links.  But I can’t embed videos.  Or, at least I’ve never figured out how.
