I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it here before or not, but lately I’ve found myself hooked on Galaxy Zoo. It’s an scientific assistance project where the public can help scientists classify galaxies through a series of just a few short questions with simple explanations. There are also forums, well trafficked ones, where people ask questions about what they’ve seen. One person who goes by the handle “Hanny” found something when she was classifying and asked about it in one of the forums. It turns out to be an object of astronomical curiosity, a galaxy-sized green cloud of hot ionized gas that Hanny dubbed the “Voorwerp” in her native dutch, meaning “object”.
At any rate, I find it completely addictive. Perhaps you will too ![]()
