(CNN)—Political, religious and sexual behaviors may be reflections
of intelligence, a new study finds.
Evolutionary psychologist Satoshi Kanazawa at the the London School of Economics and Political Science correlated data on these behaviors with IQ from a large national U.S. sample and found that, on average, people who identified as liberal and atheist had higher IQs. This applied also to sexual exclusivity in men, but not in women. The findings will be published in the March 2010 issue of Social Psychology Quarterly.

I read that article a few days ago and got a kick about how Kanazawa and another contributor put a sort of negative spin on the liberal higher IQ people, then identified themselves as a Libertarian and a conservative, respectively.  And I felt a fair number of their conclusions were biased and unjustified speculation.

Occam

Could the cause for all this be the fact that humans think. None of these structured social activities are found in other animals (exclude sex, or safety in numbers, or the protection of the alpha, all of which require no IQ at all).
Why liberals and atheist would tend to have higher IQ is because they like to apply sceptical reasoning to these issues and not blindly accept the words of a few.
