Surely there must be someone in the Church who can understand, at the least, that this kind of response will only add to its problems.

The Vatican (a small group of men) is acting disgustingly.  sick

The accusations against the ordinary priests (a large group) are so wide-spread, the problems are pervasive, deep reform is needed.  I hope that the common Catholics (hundreds of millions or more) do rise up and really get behind the reformations because this institution has and does affect so many.

The Vatican, they distract from the main issues, acting like guilty street thugs.  When they compare themselves to to the Jewish victims, that is horrid when they are holding such power, that they use against their most vulnerable people.  When they publicly demean and belittle the victims, they add insult to injuries.  Their stance is disgusting, what the hell kind of an institution are they trying to run, it strangely and surprisingly seems like a safe house for thugs and pedophiles, when they are supposed to be maintaining a house devoted to good.

Either the Vatican needs to do some major reform, perhaps democracy, or the common Catholic needs to really force it by walking away from the Vatican.

Now this is the worst I’ve heard so far! From the Bishop of Tenerife:

“There are 13 year old adolescents who are under age and who are perfectly in agreement with, and what’s more wanting it, and if you are careless they will even provoke you”, he said.

So now it’s not just Donohue’s excuse that “the kids were old enough” THIS guy suggests the kids WANTED IT and in fact, were the ones molesting the poor vulnerable PRIESTS!”

My head is going to explode.

I have a feeling this expose’ has not finished growing, and that this is but the beginning. The RCC keeps digging its grave deeper and deeper and deeper. Let them continue to dig. I hope that as long as they have been shoved into the spotlight, no more little boys or little girls will get hurt.

Re: Doug’s post, The catholic church just doesn’t know when to shut up, do they? If you can’t say anything to make it better, don’t say anything to make it worse! they keep digging their hole deeper, and deeper, and deeper!!

Those Catholics just love a deep hole.  Unfortunately there isn’t one big enough to drop the whole stinking edifice into!

The problem of Pedophilia is ingrained in the structure of the RCC.  The ban on religious marrying, the veneration of virginity,
the obsession with contraception and abortion, and the general focus on “sin” of which sex is NUMERO UNO will, IMO, tend to
attract those who are trying to keep their personal sexual demons at bay and attempt to use a vocation to that end.  Until the church
rethinks its anti-human rules of celibacy and institutes a serious screening process, this problem will continue, again IMO.

This is very, very bad.  But, even worse, would be the claim that the molested were doing Satan’s work.  Will we hear this as well?

Why do we always have to hear these baseless prejudices and demonization attempts?  Aren’t the facts of this situation bad enough without the rhetoric?  First the priests, a large group, whether innocent or not all getting blamed for pedophilia, then they get labled as gay and all the innocent gay men get labeled as pedophiliacs also, now in this thread the unmarried are getting blamed as pedophiliacs as well.  Baseless rhetoric all of it!

If an individual has a mental illness like pedophilia, first we need to protect the victims, then treat the person’s illness.  If there is more than one then use math, not a blankent prejudice, to expand the blame.  That is the reality.  Expamding the blame out in order to blanket larger and larger groups is not going to solve any problems.  Catholics (the large group) are protesting the circumstance,  the Vatican (a small group) is using their power against the Catholic victims.  Lets not blow the blame out-of-proportion, keep this forum out of the gutter please.

Catholics (the large group) are lending financial support to the Vatican, which is protecting child rapists and blaming the victims for their attackers’ crimes. Catholics (the large group) are culpable in this as well.

Now, a letter signed by the pope has turned up. He delayed for years firing a priest who tied up and molested two boys. The priest had a history of this behavior. Part of his reasoning, was that firing the guy would be bad for morale, and make people lose faith in the church. He advises the priest pedophile receive “paternal care” during the four year investigation. Yet the pedophile was still allowed to work with children during this time.

Apparently the facts alone were not enough for the the Church to deal with the problem for centuries.
