She seems to be growing in popularity, particularly ever since she appeared on Oprah’s XM Radio show. Has anybody else heard of Abraham Hicks? I know she buys into the whole “The Secret” nonsense, but what makes her approach to life so appealing? Some of my friends think she’s all the rage. I had the displeasure of watching one of her videos, and I rolled my eyes so frequently, I thought they would roll out of their sockets. Lol.

Anybody else had that displeasure?

Why do I allow myself to get side tracked by such tripe?

I have a friend who buys into this crap.  Only she calls it ‘affirmations.”

This kind of crap is horrible.  It does nothing but teach people to be passive and apathetic.  I think it’s as successful as it is because it appeals to humanity’s desire to feel like we’re doing something without actually doing it.

Never heard of her, but if what I’ve seen posted here is any indication, I wouldn’t be surprised if Skeptic and Skeptical Inquirer end up doing specials on her.

Anyways, my major concern with those who think like her is that their “teachings” involve an approach to real world issues, such as poverty, inequality and injustice that is apathetic and peurile. What a ridiculous notion that by “thinking positively” ALONE we can some how use our brainwaves through cosmic vibrations and alignments to bring about change?  Such crap!

What’s the matter? Don’t you want to come in alignment with the energy of your source? or use a vortex to pull in a lover?

It doesn’t matter if the “laws” are real. It only matters if she can get people to act as if the laws were real. In doing so she can change an individuals future. I don’t know if that is good or bad. Say half the time people who believe a mental “vortex” pull in a life partner who would not have otherwise do so if they hadn’t acted as if such a vortex could accomplish this.

Abraham, strange name for a women, helped them accomplish their goal. Is this good or bad?

Her “laws” have nothing to do with reality however they can still affect reality.

I think Oprah’s believes it is necessary to empower one’s self, certainly empower herself, and probably believes she is helping other to that regardless of the stupid crap they believe in.

Now if a person gets filthy rich by believing they are empowering people, is that wrong?
