What’s with these?  I get them a lot.  There are several news articles I’ve tried posting links to and a number of pictures I’ve tried using that I’ve received this message from.  I get that you don’t want porn and pharm-bots shilling away and that certain topics tend to result in pretty horrific (yet often impressive) flame wars, but I hit that wall over the most random stuff.  None of what I’ve been blocked over has been dirty or offensive.

Could anyone post or send me a list so I know what to avoid?  Also, any suggestions for sharing the articles that don’t involve me copy-and-pasting the entire damn thing?

Doug can answer this much more authoritatively than I can, but I’ll guess that you tried to post links that looked like spam, or that you posted pictures that were copyrighted.  The organization is really down on spam, and they don’t want to get sued for displaying copyright material without official permission from the holder.

IIRC we had a question about this awhile back with some links, and we brought it up to the techies and they tried to fix something. I believe it’s a bug somewhere, or an overly aggressive anti-spam-link filter or the like. If you can provide us the links in this thread we can forward them to the tech folks to look at.

Though NB: this will take time, since it’ll of necessity be at the end of a line of things they have to do.

Eh, it’s not that important.  I guess if I really want to use a pic that gets blocked I can load it into my Photobucket account and use it.  And I can just copy-and-paste articles if I really want to share them.

By the way, did I post this here or was it moved?  I thought I put it in the feedback/complaints section.

Eh, it’s not that important.  I guess if I really want to use a pic that gets blocked I can load it into my Photobucket account and use it.  And I can just copy-and-paste articles if I really want to share them.

OK, it wouldn’t surprise me if there were some blocking software installed site wide. It’s outside our general purview here, so we have to roll with the punches. As I say if there’s something specific we can attempt to see if it’s fixable.

Since you can use the words “porn”, “drugs” and “abortion” in posts, but the software may block them in links, you may just want to replace the offending word with XXXX in the link then, in the standard text, state “in the link above, XXXX = porn”.  I shouldn’t mention this because I really dislike posts that are just links.  I’d rather discuss the topic here instead of have to muddle through some long story to get to the point.

I wanted to know what the deal is because I’ve also tried hotlinking to things that use as examples, but ran into the block.
