Hmm… I suppose a belief in a “higher power” might ease the pain when it comes to unfortunate break-ups and other tragedies, but of course it compounds the issues more than it explains them, when you stop to think about it. The tsunami and Katrina are perfect examples of how we are able to thank God not only for his blessings, but for allowing us to be utterly obliterated as well!
I think it’s sad that Reese, like so many, believes that succumbing to and/or acknowledging a “larger force” in the universe is helpful to us or our children. We ought to be recognizing that this life matters, and trying to maximize each moment we have on this planet, rather than accepting misery by banking on a rewarding afterlife, or some sort of divine master plan. I don’t know, self-determination and a sense of control always makes me feel more comfortable than helplessness or submission does…
