LInk

Wow.  Somebody sure hit the Shitty Genetics Lottery’s Jackpot.  I really feel sorry for this lady.  Her life has to suck.  She has to have some sort of underlying immune disorder or something.

As another ‘highly allergic’ individual, I’m suspicious of her claims. I think some of them are probably psychosomatic illnesses.

The tests revealed that her allergies include deodorant, perfume, paint, fizzy drinks, minerals in bottled spring water, chocolate, onions, car fumes, hydrocortisone cream, nuts, bleach, fish, tea, coffee, oranges, tomatoes, latex, talc, newsprint dye, coins, banknotes, pasta, sunflower oil, dairy products, wheat, bread products, white rice, porridge, white sugar, sweets, cigarette smoke, nickel, gold, silver, food colourings, sulphates, calcium chloride and rainwater.

It looks like this woman has some psychosomatic problems, of note:
Car fumes….what is THAT? That is non-specific
Hydrocortisone cream…your body makes hydrocortisone. Of course the cream could have a carrier she is reacting to, but NOT the hydrocortisone.
White sugar-sweets….your body is powered by sugars; glucose, fructose, galactose and other sugars. Your BRAIN is the biggest consumer of sugars in your body.
Calcium Chloride…this is a critical trace element in your body. It helps drive the electrical conduction system of the heart. It forms your bones. That is a bogus allergy.
Minerals in bottled spring water/rainwater…another bogus allergy. spring waters have various trace minerals, most of them essential to your health. What would rainwater have in it that reservoir water doesn’t have?

The doctor needs to exercise a little skepticism. shut eye

Since rainwater is essentially distilled (pure) water, I’d say she’s just allergic to life.  If she’s getting actual reactions to all these, her body is objecting to being alive.

Since her body is 60-70% water, I’d say she need psychological help.

I’m thinking that is a good possibility, asanta.  It doesn’t make sense, esp when others are allergies and they are bad, it is unbelievable one is allergic water.

It’s more than unbelievable, it’s impossible! You can have an allergic reaction to hot or cold water, but you are reacting to the temperature, not the water.

Or what is in the water, but I can’t see what would be in distilled.

Distilled water is pure H2O.

What about pollutants in the rain water?

And what if she has an immune disorder of some sort, as I suggested?  Can anybody think of any?

Nope, still makes no sense. The rainwater pollutants would be so varied, and no more than trace minerals. It would make more sense for her to say she was allergic to the wind; I can at least think of a mechanism. Most foods eaten would have the same trace minerals as rainwater, including those she ‘isn’t’ allergic to. It is obvious that she is not scientifically literate, otherwise she could come up with a better group of allergies!!! She may actually be allergic to some of the things on the list, and that is not remarkable, both Mriana and I have many allergies, but some of the things she lists are just plain impossible in the context listed.

It does seem a little odd.  I know people who are allergic to most of those things, but not all at once and not to any of the ones you italicised.  The sugar one seems especially weird.  If you were allergic to sugar you’d be in a constant state of allergic reaction.  Or dead.  Or something.  Wouldn’t you?  (Foods with high sugar content, such as most desserts, tend to cause me stomach pain, but I’ve never considered it an allergy.  It just makes no sense to me.)  I looked up calcium chloride and it looks like it can be a skin irritant, especially when mixed with water so that could explain that one.
