My god! With an injury like that you could go mute! Thank god your ability to speak was spared. 
My ring finger got caught in a door, Owww. I was around eight to ten years old. I only lost the finger nail, sorry I don’t have a gruesome story. I was so surprised how sensitive the skin underneath was, the newly exposed skin was more painful than the crushing injury. It grew back funny for many years, and now-a-days its hard to see the difference.
