Whatever happened to the good ol’ days when Atheism just meant you didn’t believe that a super magical Deity existed?

I might be wrong but I thought it never meant just that in the U.S. Isn’t “atheist” practically a synonym for an “immoral person”?

Yeah, but that same claim goes for all the other churches but one’s own.  And, I think what he meant was that in the “old days” all the atheists were in the closet so there was never any discussion about subtle variations in the views of each atheist.  While I’ve been an atheist for 70 years, it never occurred to me until the last few years to define the differences discussed above.
