Hey people you have the wrong god, what CC has posted is a photo of Marduk, not Satan, the Sumerian god.  (He may be the basis for the Biblical Golden Calf however.)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marduk

We are supposed to be science based so let’s be accurate. cheese

Ha ha ha… that’s the way that virgin duty goes, someone else volunteers you for it!  Ha ha ha.  Smile, you are okay DM.  smile Remember, that is how it happened to Jesus.

Wow,
now there’s an interesting question…
Was he a virgin too?

I was wondering whether it was a standard shot or whether the shutter was left open for, say 30 seconds.  That way far more of the activity would be shown than one would actually see, making it a much more dramatic picture.

It depends on the light and the cameras setting and filters being used.  A 30 second shutter setting would probably result in in a wipeout through overexposure if done during the day.

In the Chaiten photo, if you look closely just to the left of the “Eye of Satan”, there’s a tiny, bearded face. Looks like it could be Nostradamus or someone. Or maybe Frank Zappa.

OK, I went back and looked.  By the time I was through, I found six faces in that picture, and I bet I could find at least four or five more after a couple of glasses of wine.  LOL

HAAA   shock  THIS IS WHAT GLOBAL WARMING WILL DO TO YOU ! !  vampire.jpg

But I beat them to it.  cool smirk
{Well, OK, it’s not really the face of satan, it’s actually volcano Chaiten, Chili, doing its thing back in May of 2008.}

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I recently came across this thing, and golly it just seemed to fit right in with the theme of this thread.
So for the general amusement, ta…da…

goretorch_300.jpg

You know what’s really funny, this comes off the website site of one of the few genuine climatologists that supports and feeds skeptic/contrarian/denialist memes.
One Dr. Roy Spencer.  His manipulative Climate Modeling techniques and calculations have been repeatedly refuted by detailed exposures of their weaknesses.  As for instance, explained in this series:

Roy Spencer on Climate Sensitivity - Again
Roy Spencer’s Great Blunder, Part 1
Roy Spencer’s Great Blunder, Part 2
Roy Spencer’s Great Blunder, Part 3
  Roy Spencer’s Latest Silver Bullet

So this is what “skeptical” scientists are being reduced too.

Oh, but I digress, how about that flaming gorge, er… gore.

cool hmm

Guess they don’t have to spend too much money on buying fireworks displays for the tourists.
But, would you want one in your backyard.

Well they did put Etna all the way on the East side of the island.  I suppose if you want to move Etna further away… we’re certainly not going to move the people off one of the most valued and contested spots in the world, a large island in the middle of the beautiful Mediterranean Sea, the island where the great Archimedes of Syracuse did his works… so how would we move Etna?  Hummmmm.  Chao!  cool smile

From the traces of the hot rocks hurling outwards, it looks like a several second exposure at least.
