Don’t people want a firecracker picture from Flickr, an artist’s web site, in this fun thread?  smile  If not, if you want the serious news of Anak Krakatau, than click the link.  Have your own choice.  smile

Look at the left of the Anak Krakatau mouth, clear sharp fireworks flying away.  Look at the right of the mouth, not so sharp, not so clear.  Why??  It a time-lapsed pic, for sure.  smile

Anak Krakatau (Son of Krakatoa)

Mt. Anak Krakatau’s activity escalating: Official

From the traces of the hot rocks hurling outwards, it looks like a several second exposure at least.

Shake, rattle, and roll.  I feel sorry for the people who live there.

animated map of the island disappearing

FYI it is called Mt. Anak Krakatau (Son of Krakatau).  It is the son because there was another mountain there before… I said was another mountain, Krakatau (Krakatoa).  In 1883 it was the greatest explosion in modern times, which is important history, I think.  Don’t worry that the old mountain is missing, now we have another, sarcastically speaking.

Play with the virtual volcano

The best explosion was the high velocity and high gas.  While cool in simulation, I’m sure in real life it wouldn’t be.

Well they did put Etna all the way on the East side of the island.  I suppose if you want to move Etna further away… we’re certainly not going to move the people off one of the most valued and contested spots in the world, a large island in the middle of the beautiful Mediterranean Sea, the island where the great Archimedes of Syracuse did his works… so how would we move Etna?  Hummmmm.  Chao!  cool smile

Just give it a few million years   tongue wink

Anak Krakatau (Son of Krakatoa)

Weelll, if you folks want to learn a little about what happened to this little fella’s Mama, there’s one awesome book by
Simon Winchester that does a wonderful of job of telling the story of Krakatoa and most fun it’s context in the local time/scene.

Krakatoa: The Day the World Exploded: August 27, 1883
