Just a few weeks ago Australia was being assaulted with biblical rains and flooding. The extreme rain from this weather system was very weird because it wasn’t associated with a cyclonic weather system. The tradition rain drencher. It was just a weather front pushed along by a strong La Nina Pacific Ocean condition. This surprisingly strong front encountered extremely warm ocean waters off Australia and the rains started pouring and pouring. Precisely the sort of weather character shift climate scientists have been speculating about since before the nineteen-fifties.
That was then, now this month in Australia the cyclones have arrived with a vengeance. Hang on folks it’s going to start getting bumpy.
