Baba Brinkman’s Rap Guide to Religion
To celebrate International Blasphemy Rights Day, rap artist Baba Brinkman will perform his hit show, The Rap Guide to Religion. Described as "part rap concert, part comedy, part TED Talk," the show explores the science of belief, tracing "the faith instinct" back to the evolutionary roots of our species. Just like rap concerts, religions are designed to "move the crowd" by any means necessary. Drawing from sources as diverse as scientific data. religious scriptures, and celebrity Oscar acceptance speeches, Brinkman reveals the hidden logic begind religious behavior, from Jehova to Jay-Z (aka J-Hova).
Hailed as "a celebration of reason and science" (Theatre Pizzazz) for its ingenious presentation of faith as a natural phenomenon, The Rap Guide to Religion finds the humor and the inspiration in its subject, presenting the scientific study of religion as a basis for greater understanding and reconciliation across religious divides. The show recently ran for seven months off-Broadway in New York, garnering rave reviews, critics' pick selections from the New York Times and Time Out New York, and a Drama Desk Award nomination for "Unique Theatrical Experience".
Tickets are $10 and will be sold at the door only.
Cafe Inquiry note: This show is scheduled in place of Café Inquiry, which will resume next month.
