Poundstone talk, election polling place highlight CFI-L.A.’s week

Discussing with a full house audience of 75 Sunday how an ESP experiment on the radio inspired the science of human predictability, author William Poundstone described from his new book psychologist Louis Goodfellow’s determination that the public’s guesses about random mental targets were not random, but predictable. His new book, Rock Breaks Scissors: A Practical Guide to Outguessing and Outwitting Almost Everybody, could not be sold before its publishing date but were given away free to eight new and renewing members.
On Tuesday, our theater lobby housed a polling place for three precincts for the California primary.
Over the weekend, Exec. Dir. Jim Underdown attended SkeptiCal, the Northern California Science & Skepticism Conference.
