Change in Leadership for Center For Inquiry Long Island
March 10, 2010
As you may be aware already, Gerry Dantone, founder of Long Island Secular Humanists and coordinator of CFI-LI since its inception, has stepped down due to pressing obligations. I am certain this was a difficult decision for Gerry. We support him and wish him well.
Over the past month, a small group of CFI-LI members has been working behind the scenes to ensure uninterrupted service for the newsletter and in continuing to provide forums and events for the organization. Phil Pollack, Norm Roscoe and Bob and Barbara Braine have worked closely with Lauren Becker at CFI Amherst and Michael De Dora of CFI-NYC over the last few weeks, and we are in the process of moving forward. As part of that process, I have been appointed Coordinator for CFI-LI. I’ve been involved intermittently with our group for several years, and have worked with other freethinker groups in this area. It is an honor and a privilege to serve in this capacity.
Over the course of the next year, we hope to provide Long Island with new opportunities for secular humanists, atheists and freethinkers of all affiliations to connect with one another, both socially and in structured settings, such as our discussion groups and monthly educational forum. If you have comments or suggestions, or would like to volunteer your time or services, please feel free to get in touch with me by phone or email. This is a time of growth and change for our community. You are a vital part of this change. Let's make it happen.
We are grateful for your membership and your continuing commitment to freethought and a rational, secular society. This is an exciting time to be a freethinker in America.
