SECULAR PARENTING FORUM 2013
The 2013 Secular Parenting Forum is a day-long conference for parents, educators, and interested freethinkers sponsored by Center for Inquiry – Long Island. This year, CFI-LI is pleased to announce that the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island (EHSLI) has graciously agreed to co-sponsor the event.
Recent polls indicate that as many as 1 in 5 Americans identify as non-religious, atheist, or agnostic. As a result, an increasing number of children are growing up in families that do not observe religious practices, or in which the beliefs of at least one parent are significantly different from the other. How will this affect our society as these kids grow to adulthood? How do families cope with mixed (or no) faiths? Will a generation of children raised without a god grow up to be criminals? CFI-LI and EHSLI feel that these are questions worthy of discussion.
Both CFI-LI and EHSLI believe in strong family values and the importance of teaching children the importance of compassion, respect, and social responsibility. This conference is presented to help foster a society that encourages open debate and critical thought, as well as investing in the future for our children.
