In the Shadow of the SunThe Center for Inquiry-Northeast Ohio (CFI-NEO) is proud to be an official partner of the Medical Mutual Community Engagement Program of the 37th Cleveland International Film Festival (CIFF) presented by Dollar Bank, which will take place April 3 – 14, 2013 at Tower City Cinemas. This is the fourth consecutive year that CFI-NEO has partnered with the film festival.
This year, CFI-NEO is specifically partnered with the film In the Shadow of the Sun, a documentary about the plight of Tanzania’s estimated 170,000 albinos. Often rejected or killed at birth by their own families, Tanzania’s albino population now faces an increased risk of being murdered as witch doctors spread the superstition that the body parts of albinos can bring wealth and good fortune. The film, directed by Harry Freeland, follows Vedastus, a teenage student, and Josephat, a strong-willed activist, as they fight for survival and understanding. The movie screens three times during the 12-day festival: Monday, April 8 at 2:05 p.m.; Tuesday, April 9 at 6:25 p.m.; and Wednesday, April 10 at 11:50 a.m.
The 37th CIFF will screen 178 feature films and 164 short subject films, from 65 countries. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, March 22. Use code CFI to receive $2 off the regular ticket price of $14. (This code will give you a discount for any and all tickets you buy at the festival.) Tickets will be available online at www.clevelandfilm.org, by telephone (1.877.304.FILM), at the Ulmer & Berne Film Festival Box Office in the lobby of Tower City Cinemas, or by mail using the Program Guide order form.
