CFI Files Amicus Brief in Critical Supreme Court Prayer Case

On Monday, the Center for Inquiry (CFI) filed a friend-of-the-court brief in Town of Greece v. Galloway, Case No. 12-696. In this case, the U.S. Supreme Court will consider the constitutionality of official prayers in local government settings, such as invocations at city council or school board meetings. If the Court issues a broad ruling, this decision could have significant implications on church-state controversies other than legislative prayer. Full Entry »

At the United Nations Human Rights Council, the Center for Inquiry is bringing the principles of science and reason, and the values of secular humanism to the attention of the international community. This week, CFI’s Geneva-based U.N. representative, Dr. Elizabeth O’Casey, raised an alarm over servile marriages, in which young girls, even small children, are force-wedded to adult men for the purpose of satisfying religious or financial obligations, or to form political bonds. Constitution Week 2013: Join CFI Board Chair Edward Tabash in Florida!

Constitutional lawyer and CFI board chair Edward Tabash takes on the state of Florida in this series of events celebrating Constitution Week 2013. CFI branches across the state will host presentations recognizing the United States’ constitutional foundation in church-state separation. The main event is a debate in Miami on the question “Does God Exist?” featuring Edward Tabash and Tom Trento. Following the debate, CFI branches in Tampa Bay, Daytona Beach, and Tallahassee will host Mr. Tabash for lectures discussing civil liberties and the question of whether America is a Christian nation.
