Donor Gives $200,000 to Council for Secular Humanism
August 16, 2010
The Council for Secular Humanism, an affiliate of the Center for Inquiry (CFI), recently received a gift of $200,000 from an anonymous donor. This is the same anonymous donor that in recent years has given $800,000 to the Council. ( See the June 1 announcement discussing the financial situation of CFI and its affiliates.) The transmittal letter accompanying the gift did not explain the size or timing of the donation.
The Council and CFI are deeply grateful for the generosity of this donor. The donor’s substantial gift will be extremely helpful in sustaining the programs of the Council.
However, the Council is still $600,000 short of its budgeted income for the year. CFI—which is a supporting organization for the Council—does not have the resources to eliminate this major, unexpected deficit. CFI, the Council, and the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry have launched a combined fund drive campaign seeking emergency assistance from supporters to close this budget gap.
