New Job Opportunity! CFI Seeks Web Content Coordinator

May 21, 2015

We at CFI hear what all the kids are saying these days: that the World Wide Web is going to be big, big, big! Maybe even bigger than America Online!

But seriously. The Center for Inquiry has a strong web presence, using the tools of the digital world to advance our mission, advocating for science, reason, and secularism to make a better world for all. We’ve got a first-class podcast in Point of Inquiry, a dynamic social media network, online educational courses, magazine and journal archives, a trove of video from fascinating CFI events, and of course, our websites.

That’s where we have a great opportunity for a talented individual to help us strengthen, streamline, and improve CFI’s web properties. We’re looking to hire a Web Content Coordinator whose primary job will be to maintain and add new content to our websites. We have a number of sites to which we regularly add new articles, posts, videos, and other updates, and we’re looking for someone to help keep things running smoothly and looking good.

This is an entry-level, full-time position, located at CFI’s headquarters in Amherst, NY, right by the University at Buffalo. (Sorry, we aren’t accepting remote workers or freelancers.)

Interested? If you’d like to join us:

You don’t have to be a developer, but you should have some experience formatting and managing posts, entries, or other content in a blogging platform or content management system. You should know how to utilize some basic HTML tags and CSS styles.

You don’t have to be a designer, but you should be detail-oriented and have a good eye for whether things look right or wrong. You’ll be formatting content and putting it into our websites, so you should know how to make things look consistent and presentable—and how to catch and fix problems when they occur.

You’ll be working most directly with our Web Product Designer. You’ll also be working with many people throughout our organization, so you should be able to communicate clearly, reliably, and comfortably. There will be many opportunities to learn new things and take on new tasks, but initially most responsibilities will involve formatting and adding new content to existing sites.

You should have experience with or knowledge of:

  • Posting content to websites or blogs
  • Formatting with HTML tags
  • Styling elements with CSS
  • Resizing and cropping images for web use
  • Modifying a site’s theme/template to suit changing needs
  • Learning new concepts and skills to expand your areas of expertise
  • Staying on top of a variety of different projects at the same time

Also, you should have:

  • An eye for consistency and the ability to tell whether or not something looks right
  • Solid communication skills

Though not required, it’d be fantastic if you had experience with or knowledge of:

  • More advanced image manipulation and creation
  • ExpressionEngine or Wordpress in particular
  • HTML email composition

The salary for this position is very competitive for the Buffalo area and CFI offers a generous package of fringe benefits, including vacation, sick leave and health insurance.

If you’re interested, send your cover letter and resume to webdev+jobs@centerforinquiry.net, and please let us know what kind of web experience you have (with links if possible).
