Beyond Faith: An Ex-Christian Student Support and Discussion Group
Beyond Faith is a support group
for young people who are currently, or have in the past, gone through
the often difficult process of leaving Christianity. Beyond Faith
is for the person who doesn't quite fit in with the pack, a person
whose ideals and beliefs do not jive with their peers, family members,
or loved ones. This can be a tough journey, especially for those whose
family and friends are unsupportive of their doubts and lack of belief.
Our group aims to create a safe space of support, community,
inclusiveness, and encouragement on this journey away from Christianity
and towards a reason-based worldview. For some, just the idea of
entertaining serious doubts about faith can be dangerous and overwhelming, and Beyond Faith seeks to ease the process and create a warm, welcoming and optimistic environment for like-minded folks on the same path.
Beyond Faith is open to any young people who identify as atheist, agnostic, Humanist, or who have serious doubts about Christianity. We are open to any and all denominations of Christianity. Beyond Faith is a safe space for women, people of color, LGBTQ people, and those who are differently-abled. Because of this, the facilitators and participants of this group will be expected to keep member identities, meeting locations, and content confidential to protect everyone involved.
New Member Questionnaire (please email to firstname.lastname@example.org before attending):
In an effort to ensure all members of this group are respectful and open to others, we ask that you fill out this short questionnaire so the organizers can tailor the group to its members. We have a zero-tolerance policy for evangelism at our meetings; people attending for the sake of evangelizing will be asked to leave. We do this in an effort to protect our members and ensure that our group is a safe space for all attendees.
This is NOT an application, all serious members will be invited regardless of answers to the questions below.
1. Why are you interested in Beyond Faith?
2. As much as you are comfortable sharing, can you tell us a little about yourself (including name/age/where you're from), and how your experiences have brought you the point you're at now?
3. Do you define yourself as any/all of the following: atheist, agnostic, humanist, nontheist, or any other term?
4. Where would you consider yourself on your journey out of Christianity and into atheism/agnosticism/nontheism/etc?
Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions. You are welcome and encouraged to bring friends and family members that you think may benefit from this group as well. We look forward to having you!
As there is limited space, we ask that you only attend if you are under the age of 30. If, however, you are older than 30 and are very interested in attending, or have attended our discussions in the past, please send us a private message and we may be able to work something out.
