Cerebral Cinema - The Birds
Die hard cinephiles, academic film enthusiasts, and casual movie goers looking to expand their movie going experience welcome. Cerebral Cinema is a group geared towards getting together to watch a variety of a eclectic cinema ranging from highbrow indie fare to genre blockbusters. Following each theatrical outing, our group will congregate to discuss the film over food or drinks. Discussion topics will center around the film's plot and themes, the past filmography of the cast and crew, and the film at hand's cultural relevance.
Imagine a traditional zombie film with all the trappings of any great zombie film that predates all other zombie films from George Romero's Night of the Living Dead to AMC's Walking Dead. Now replace zombies with flocks of deranged birds and Alfred Hitchcock's dry satiric wit. In this classic Hitchcock yarn were snobby socialites are pitted in a scenario of sheer terror, what begins as an intricate soap opera built around the somewhat secretive beach community of Bodega Bay devolves into an avian nightmare.
Join us as we meet up around 7:15 to purchase tickets and get acquainted prior to a 7:45 screening (it's best to meet early as seats in the theater tend to fill). After the feature you can either accompany us for drinks and discussion at Houston Hall across the street or remain at the Film Forum and catch the 10:05 screening of Psycho (also being shown at 5:30, prior to The Birds), taking in a Hitchcock double feature.
The Birds (1963) is directed by Alfred Hitchcock and stars Tippi Hedren, Rod Taylor, Jessica Tandy and Suzanne Pleshette. Tickets can be purchase either at the box office or online at - http://boxoffice.printtixusa.com/filmforum/advance?v=2454&i=1681)
