Music Monday: Jay Z - “Heaven”

October 14, 2013

Syd LeRoy, director of CFI–New York City, recently alerted me to the heresy contained in Jay Z’s most recent album Magna Carta… Holy Grail. The 9th track, “Heaven” is particularly critical of religion.

Here are some select lines from the track:

Conspiracy theorist screaming Illuminati
They can’t believe this much skill is in the human body

Question religion, question it all
Question existence until them questions are solved

I’m secular, tell the hecklers seckle down
Y’all religion creates division

Turn it up and enjoy!

As always, if you get a chance, send your suggestions for future Music Mondays to me at chashman@centerforinquiry.net, leave a comment below, or @tweet us at @CFIOnCampus. Your suggestions, along with future and past songs, may end up in the official Course of Reason Music Monday Spofity playlist that anyone can listen to.
