[South Carolina] Darwin Day Debate: Dan Barker and Kyle Butt
Note: This is a global event that appears on all event calendars.
The debate will feature Dan Barker, co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, and Kyle Butt, from Apologetics Press. (more info about them below) Barker will affirm the proposition "I know the God of the Bible does not exist," while Butt will deny that proposition.
The debate will be moderated by Rev. Dr. Neal Jones, minister of Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbia and president of the local Columbia chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State. Each participant will have equal time for main propositions, rebuttals, conclusions, a chance for cross examination, and there will be an opportunity for questions from the audience.
The event will be filmed and produced.
Doors open at 6:30 PM. The event is free and open to the public.
Information about Apologetics Press, Freedom From Religion Foundation and Pastafarians at USC can be found at tables next to the venue the day of the event. Dan Barker's new book, "Godless: How an Evangelical Preacher Became One of America's Leading Atheists," will be available for purchase at the FFRF table. If you buy a copy, Dan will be signing them after the debate.

KYLE BUTT
Kyle Butt is a graduate of Freed-Hardeman University, where he earned a B.A. with a double major in Bible and communications, and an M.A. in New Testament. Currently, he serves in the Bible department at Apologetics Press and as editor of Discovery magazine. He speaks frequently around the country at youth rallies, lectureships, Gospel meetings, etc. He is the author of "Out with Doubt" and "Behold! The World of God."
DAN BARKER
Barker is co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation. A former minister and evangelist, Dan became a freethinker in 1983. His books, "Just Pretend: A Freethought Book for Children" and "Losing Faith in Faith: From Preacher To Atheist" are published by the Foundation. His newest book, "Godless: How An Evangelical Preacher Became One of America's Leading Atheists," was published by Ulysses Press in 2008. A graduate of Azusa Pacific University with a degree in Religion, Dan now puts his knowledge of Christianity to effective freethought use. A professional pianist and composer, Dan performs freethought concerts and is featured in the Foundation's musical cassettes, "My Thoughts Are Free," "Reason's Greetings," "Dan Barker Salutes Freethought Then And Now," a 2-CD album "Friendly Neighborhood Atheist," and the CD "Beware of Dogma." He joined the Foundation staff in 1987 and served as public relations director. He was first elected co-president in November 2004.
