A Celebration of Science!

The Center for Inquiry Community of Fort Lauderdale and FLASH (Florida Atheists and Secular Humanists) are please to present our THIRD ANNUAL DARWIN DAY on Saturday, February 7.  (2009 marks the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of On the Origin of Species.)
 
The event will be a celebration of science, including speakers, presentations, films, door prizes, kids' activities, nature walks, birthday cake, and lunch (for a donation).  Bring the kids!

Featured speakers include:

  • Capt. Dan Kipnis from the Florida Wildlife Confederation speaking on the effects of global warming on the oceans
  • Dr. Martin Motes, reknowned orchid expert
  • Jonathan Smith from the Florida Citizens for Science
  • Rev. Dr. Priscilla Felisky Whitehead, Church by the Sea

There will also be a panel discussion on various issues surrounding science and evolution, including the compatibility of modern science with mainstream religions.

Join us at Long Key Nature Center, the newest park in the Broward County system.  This beautiful facility is located at 3501 SW 130th Avenue, Davie, just west of Flamingo Road and SW 36th Court.  The program starts at 10:00 am and goes until 5:00 pm.  Doors open at 9:30 am.
