I’m not sure if he’s too much of a postmodernist for ya’ll, but for all of you semioticians, or just fans of contemporary literature…

Umberto Eco is speaking at The New York Public Library Humanities branch (Fifth Ave & 42nd St, NYC) tomorrow, November 15th at 7:00PM.

Time Out Magazine has this to say about the event -

The internationally renowned Italian philosopher and essayist presents Turning Back the Clock, in which he tackles world politics, globalization, religious fundamentalism and other contemporary topics.

I don’t know much about him, but I listened to an interview on The Leonard Lopate Show. The topic was “Umberto Eco On Ugliness.” He’s the editor of a new coffee tablebook titled “On Ugliness.”

Fiction is fun, but facts are fundamental.

“On Ugliness”? Is that a sequel to his History of Beauty? BTW, has anyone here read this (H. of B.)? Is it good?
