April 13th, science educator, naturalist, and author Wayne Ranney will be presenting a talk on his new book “Ancient Landscapes of the Colorado Plateau.” is a fabulous book published by the Grand Canyon Natural History Ass. This will be a great presentation by an old friend. The Colorado Plateau is home to many amazing geological parks and monuments, heck the entire plateau should be a World Heritage Site. Come see what all those rock layers represent.

Event Date: Tue, 13 Apr 2010 7:00 PM MDT
Location: Eccles Auditorium, Carolyn Tanner Irish Humanities Building (CTIHB 109)

After a three-year tour of duty as a backcountry ranger at Grand Canyon National Park in the 1970s, Wayne Ranney felt inspired to pursue his bachelor’s and master’s in geology at Northern Arizona University, where he took several of Ron Blakey’s classes. Today, Ranney works as a geology interpreter and trail guide for organizations such as the Smithsonian, the Museum of Northern Arizona, and the Grand Canyon Field Institute, and he teaches courses in southwestern geology at Coconino Community College in Flagstaff. He also works as a shipboard geology interpreter, teaching groups in such far-flung places as the Arctic, the Amazon, Africa, and Antarctica. Ranney is the author of Ancient Landscapes of the Colorado Plateau, Carving Grand Canyon and several other books about the geology of the Southwest, and he is a contributing writer for Sedona Magazine. Co-presented by Grand Canyon Trust, SUWA, Pax Natura

Wayne and I were students of Ron Blakey’s during the late seventies and I guarantee it will be an evening of filled with a cascade of WOWs that anyone with a passing interest in the American south west will not want to miss.

Get the book!

My review:

Do not miss this as inquiring minds want to know!

Yes, yes, yes!

This is modern science that can actually uplift your spirit.  These guys and the work they have done is fantastic in the best realest sense of the word.  Since most, or all, of you won’t be able to attend check out this seven part lecture available on YouTube for a whole new way of looking at and appreciating geological changes.
Tracing the Ancient Landscapes of the Colorado Plateau by Ron Blakey & Wayne Ranney

This series explains their work, while describing geologic changes that have happened in the Colorado Plateau.
You too will be filled with WOW.
