Campaign for Free Expression: Banned Book Day
Our freedom to read is often taken for granted. Even here in Canada books and magazines are banned at the border, books are removed from public libraries and forced out of the classroom. Come out for a vibrant discussion on censorship and free speech in Canada accompanied by readings from your favourite banned books.
A presentation will be given by Deidre Baker a children's literature professor and Chris Innes, Canadian research chair in performance and culture.
Discussion will be led and facilitated by Art Redding, a prof from York University.
Readings from:
Snow Falling on Cedars , To Kill A Mocking Bird, The Golden Compass, A Clockwork Orange, New American and Canadian Poetry, Moonkid and Liberty, The King's Daughter, The Turner Diaries... AND MORE! Bring your favorite!
Coffee, tea and cookies available!
