Cognitive Quitting for smokers (social service)

Starting up again soon, this free quit smoking program is a systematic, step-by-step process that quitters follow to make rational and appropriate choices instead of lighting up.  It provides quitters with simple tools and techniques to examine their smoking behavior and disconnect automatic urges to smoke.  The method produces lasting results without chemicals or medication.  For more information, visit http://www.cognitivequitting.com.

Don’t Shoot the Messenger
Why Struggle with Cravings When You Can Use Them to Quit Smoking?
Toronto, Ont. (April 2, 2007)— cognitvequitting is offering a free quit smoking program 6 to 7 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, April 2 to 30, at the Centre for Inquiry-Ontario, 216 Beverley St. in downtown Toronto.
A craving is primarily your body messaging you about its needs; "I need: stimulation, relaxation, nourishment, etc." Unfortunately Smokers have learned to associate a cigarette with all of these needs.
If you are a smoker who would like to quit, or if you have already quit but still struggle with craves or urges to smoke Cognitivequitting is a program that will show you how to identify the messages your body sends and respond appropriately.
Coach
In 1996, Steve Polansky finally managed to quit smoking. A pack a day smoker for 35 years, Steve had tried just about everything on the market that might help him quit. Finally, he discovered how to quit and stay quit without ‘craving a cigarette’ or having an ‘urge to smoke’, needs that sabotage most quitters’ best attempts. For the past 10 years, he’s successfully coaching others on line to stop smoking permanently.
Program
Polansky calls his program cognitivequitting because it is a systematic, step-by-step process that quitters follow to make rational and appropriate choices instead of lighting up. It provides quitters with simple tools and techniques to examine their smoking behavior and disconnect automatic urges to smoke. His method produces lasting results without chemicals or medication. For more information, go to his web site at www.cognitivequitting.com or call him at (416) 893-3505.
Said Polansky, “All smoking cessation programs teach smokers to quit. Mine teaches them to stay quit.”
Cognitivequitting is proud to offer its program as a part of the Centre for Inquiry-Ontario’s community outreach services.
