President Obama Declares January 16th “Religious Freedom Day”

January 18, 2010

Proclaiming that, “Faith can bring us closer to one another, and our freedom to practice our faith and follow our conscience is central to our ability to live in harmony,” President Barack Obama signed an executive order on Friday declaring January 16th to be “Religious Freedom Day” in honor of the passage of Virginia's Statute for Religious Freedom in 1786. Interestingly, no mention was made about those who profess no faith. The full text of the executive order can be found here .
