Senate Schedules Cloture Vote on Hamilton

November 11, 2009

On November 10th, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid filed for cloture on the nomination of David Hamilton to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7 th Circuit . This represents the latest development surrounding President Obama's first nominee to a judicial position. While judicial nominees below the Supreme Court level have traditionally not been contentious nominations, several of President Obama's choices for various legal positions have come under fire, and the Senate has become very polarized over whether to confirm them or not. Reid's filing of cloture is his attempt to force an up or down vote on Hamilton, who has been awaiting a confirmation vote for months.

The vote will take place on Tuesday November 17th, following 60 minutes of debate, divided equally between both parties.
