Toni Van Pelt to speak on the Importance of Science this weekend in Indianapolis

March 15, 2010

OPP Director of Public Policy Toni Van Pelt will be speaking this Saturday, March 20th at the annual Darwin Day Science Conference cosponsored by CFI Indiana. The conference begins at 8:00 AM at the IUPUI Campus Center, and runs all day. Toni will be speaking at 2:30 PM on "The Importance of Advocating for Science." Here is a short description of her talk:

The Center for Inquiry is deeply concerned about the ability of the United States to confront the many challenges it faces, both at home and abroad. Our concern has been compounded by the failure exhibited by far too many Americans, including influential decision-makers, to understand the nature of scientific inquiry and the integrity of empirical research. This disdain for science is aggravated by the excessive influence of religious doctrine on our public policies. Toni will talk about how the Office of Public Policy works to promote and advance science in our nation’s Capital.
