Calling for Interviews! Local Research Project Searches Out People Who Walked Away from Fundamentalist Religions 3-8 Years Ago
Did you leave a fundamentalist religious organization between 3-8 years ago? Are you not affiliated with a religion at all? If either of these applies to you and you have some free time, we have a doctoral student from PSU who would like to interview you.
See below for how Andreea Nica describes her research.
What is the purpose of the project?
I am conducting research on individuals who have left fundamentalist religious groups and how this impacted their well-being.
Fundamentalist religions are generally characterized as having high levels of conservatism, conformity, and absolutism. I am hoping to include people from a broad range of backgrounds. If you’re unsure whether you would be a fit for this study, please do not hesitate to contact me.
How do you qualify?
You must fall in one of the two following categories:
- You left a fundamentalist religious organization 3-8 years ago.
- Are no longer affiliated with any organized religious organization.
If accepted, what happens next?
Participation in this research includes contacting the researcher and arranging a telephone screening to make sure you meet the eligibility requirements. After the brief screening telephone interview, (5 minutes) if you agree to participate in a follow-up face-to-face interview about your experience leaving a fundamentalist religious group, that will take approximately 60 minutes. This interview will include questions about your sense of identity and meaning in life before and after leaving religion, as well as the state of your relationships and social support in leaving religion. You will receive a written consent form to review and sign before the interview.
Are there benefits to being involved?
As a token of appreciation, participants will receive a gift card for their participation in this study, which they will receive before the face-to-face interview.
