"Animal Crimes and Misbehavior" will be a light-hearted discussion of the various behaviors exhibited by animals that would be considered criminal in human society, presented by Buffalo Zoo President and CEO Dr. Donna Fernandes. The lecture includes various forms of murder (infanticide, siblicide, sexual cannibalism), sex crimes (prostitution, rape, incest, pedophilia), and other criminal acts found in the animal kingdom (theft, kidnapping, slavery). The behaviors are interpreted from an evolutionary perspective.

Fernandes will also be unveiling a proclamation from Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown officially declaring Darwin Day on February 12, 2012. The Center for Inquiry and its affiliates will be celebrating Darwin and his discoveries of scientific progress throughout the month of February.

Dr. Donna Fernandes is the president/CEO of the Buffalo Zoo. She serves as an adjunct professor in anthropology at the University of Buffalo and a part-time instructor in biology at Canisius College.
