Humanity now had a tool to play back the movie of life's evolution, which includes the amazing story of our own kind.

He was a seer and seeker. He extended our understanding and expanded our view of our world & ourselves.

On this day in 1564, Galileo Galilei was born. He refined telescope technology, discovering the four largest moons of Jupiter. He also advanced the science of physics, explaining (among other things) the reason for the tides. One of those many to die for speaking and seeking truth was burned in the Jubilee year. 

Giordano Bruno (1548 – February 17, 1600) After death his fame grew, especially in the 19th and early 20th century. His mind made him ask questions to which there were already orthodox answers. This caused him on going conflict with church authorities. He continued to speak truth to power. His unbending views on the nature of the world and the divinity of Christ has made him a martyr for free-thought and those embracing modern scientific notions.

Nicholaus Copernicus, the first to credibly challenge Ptolemy's geocentric universe, was born on this day in 1473. It was not until the year of his death, 1543, that Copernicus' work on a heliocentric model of the universe was finally published.

Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey, c. February 1818 specific day of birth is unconfirmed – February 20, 1895) was an American social reformer, orator, writer and statesman. After escaping from slavery, he became a leader of the abolitionist movement, gaining note for his dazzling oratory and incisive antislavery writing.
 
He stood as a living counter-example to slaveholders' arguments that slaves did not have the intellectual capacity to function as independent American citizens. Many Northerners also found it hard to believe that such a great orator had been a slave.

He died on February 20th. We celebrate his birth on or the eve of Presidents Day in the U.S.

African American secularist, author, journalist and reactionary conservative political commentator.

He was a Harlem contemporary and conversant of many of the key literary and political figures of his time. Including W. E. B. Du Bois, Marcus Garvey, James Weldon Johnson, C. J. Walker and others.  

Schuyler (pronounced Sky-ler)is author of the science fiction race satire, 'Black No More' where a process is created allowing race change and the noted commentary 'Black and Conservative'. The latter was a counter to the transformational positions of many in the 1960's. While his views aren't humanist in being progressive or visionary; his perspective on church and religion was in defiant resistance to the status quo positive view on spirituality and science in the black community.
