In order to facilitate the start of the Jesus Project, the first methodologically agnostic examination of the question of Jesus’ historical existence, we welcome papers of not more than 2000 words and short commentaries of about 500 words examining the evidence for the historical Jesus. The Project intends to assess both the quality of the evidence that might be used to establish historical identity as well as the conclusions drawn from the evidence itself. Given the collaborative nature of this project, we encourage submissions from numerous fields—including and not limited to biblical studies, ancient history, mythography, forensics and archaeology. Papers will be used in both the research for the Jesus Project and for possible future publication in the CSER Review. These submissions will allow us to fulfill our goal of working interactively with a large community of scholars as well as sharing new insights about the historical Jesus with a broader audience of non-specialists and the general public.

CSER has launched a major research project devoted to
examining the origins of Islam and the Koran. Using the historical-critical
methods familiar to Western textual scholarship the project is designed to
document the development of Islam’s holy book and its transmission, as well as
the development of key ideas in Islamic history. CSER has close ties with Inârah,
a consultation of scholars in North America and Europe.
Members of the consultation include Professor Dr. Karl-Heinz Ohlig, Dr.
Gerd-Rüdiger Puin, Volker Popp, Professor Dr. Markus Groβ, Ibn Warraq, and
Professor Dr. R. Joseph Hoffmann.

CSER/Inârah will hold a congress at the European Academy
in Otzenhausen, Germany (outside Saarbrücken) 13-16
March 2008. The conference theme is “Early Islamic History and the Origins of
the Koran” and is being generously supported by grants from the Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris Foundations.
