Penny Higgins

Dr. Pennilyn (Penny) Higgins is a Research Associate in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Rochester.  She earned bachelor’s degrees in Geology and General Biology from Fort Lewis College in Durango, (southwestern) Colorado, in 1995.  She completed a Master’s degree in Chemistry in 1999, and a Ph.D. in Geology in 2000, both from the University of Wyoming.  Afterwards. she worked at the Florida Museum of Natural History studying isotopes in fossil tooth enamel and charted the future course of her research.

In December of 2004, Penny and her family moved to New York to take her current position at the University of Rochester. She is responsible for managing and maintaining a new laboratory (under the direction of Dr. Carmala Garzione) which houses a brand new Thermo Finnigan Delta plus XP Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer.
