Andrea Steele and the International Freethought Film Festival
The focus of my presentation is to share the mission of the Freethought Film Festival Foundation. FFFF promotes reason, critical thinking and freedom of inquiry through the medium of film; this festival will benefit the overall freethought movement. Andrea will be presenting a collection of short films specially selected for us, which reflect freethought themes. These films are an example of the types of films that will be among the screenings at the International Freethought Film Festival.
Bio:
Andrea Steele is a mother of three teenagers and has been married to her high school sweetheart for 19 years. She writes when inspired, and her activism began with the self-publication of the book "Your Preacher May Not Want You to Read This. Her freethought activism includes the founding of Families in Reason in 2002, which received recognition by the Council for Secular Humanism and resulted in her employment as the Coordinator for the Secular Family Network. Her work with Jan Eisler and Toni Van Pelt lead to the start of the Center for Inquiry-Florida (Now CFI-Tampa). Her idea for a freethought film festival was shared at that time, and received positive reactions, but the idea never made it to the planning stage. The project never left her mind. She began to actively plan the first of its kind International Freethought Film Festival in March 2009, and incorporated Freethought Film Festival Foundation, Inc. in August 2009. Andrea has recently been invited to be a member of the planning committee for the upcoming 2013 Unity Convention, and is the Communications Director for the Tampa Bay Coalition of Reason. She now works voluntarily as the director of FFFF, managing all details of executing the film festival.
